The camp was in an absolutely beautiful area called Kurumayama, in Nagano. The town was clearly modeled after some sort of Swiss Alps-type village, and during the winters it's used as a ski resort. Right now, however, it's a beautiful, lush green area that stands at about 5,000 feet. We got to go for a hike with the campers on the second day and it was incredible.
Hello everyone! I'm done with my second camp, and am now settling in for a five night stay at a hostel in Asakusa, one of several districts in Tokyo. The second camp went pretty well, although I think I enjoyed the first one a bit better, as we stuck with a single group for the entire time and got to know them really well. This time, we switched between groups, so we didn't have a chance to get as close. The camp was in an absolutely beautiful area called Kurumayama, in Nagano. For right now, I'm looking up things to do in Tokyo and trying to plan out the next few days. I'd love to go to the Studio Ghibli Museum, and there are several beautiful gardens and shrines in Tokyo that I want to see while I'm here. Tomorrow, I think I'll walk down to Ueno and check out some of the parks and the shopping. Tokyo is definitely a bit overwhelming for someone who thinks of Denver as a big city, but I'm sure I'll get used to it by the time I head out for the next camp!

You must go to the Studio Ghibli museum! And take as many pictures as they allow! Go forth, and let me live vicariously through you!

I am absolutely going. Whether it's during this stay or during one of my other hostel stays during the trip, I am definitely going!

I love Asakusa so much; it was probably my favorite part of Tokyo. Also, if you want to go to the Studio Ghibli museum, buy tickets in advance (as in, right after you read this comment) because it fills up fast! We weren't able to go when we visited, because we didn't know we should buy them ahead of time. Have fun!

It's a pretty awesome area--I went to the main Shrine (the one with the Kaminari-mon) today and it was pretty neat. We're going to the Ghibli Museum on Friday (bought our tickets this morning!) and I'm super excited. I knew you had to buy tickets beforehand, but I had one of the Japanese members of the team help me buy them.
